Dortmund Expected to Come Out Flying in the 23-24 Season by Smashing Köln

Borussia Dortmund are aiming to move on swiftly from an incredibly brutal loss of the Bundesliga title last season that saw the Black and Yellow lose the title on the final day of the campaign as Koln heads to Signal Iduna Park this weekend.

Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Mainz on the final day of last season may end up going down as the worst result in the club’s history.

Simply put, all BVB had to do on the final day of the season was defeat the club or match Bayern Munich’s result in order to win their first Bundesliga title for 11 years.

However, somehow, after staring in the face of the title, Edin Terzic’s men could not get the job done.

It will likely go down as the biggest throwaway of a league title in German football history.

Things have got worse for Dortmund over the summer, as they have lost out on Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid after also losing Erling Haaland the year prior to Manchester City.

They haven't lost anyone else, but the club have also got Marcel Sabitzer in from Bayern Munich and Felix Nmecha into the midfield too from Wolfsburg.

Dortmund kicked off their campaign with an easy win over Schott Mainz in the DFB-Pokal first round, as Sebastien Haller scored twice in the first half of a 6-1 win.

Julian Brandt also netted that day, as did Sabitzer on his competitive debut for the club. Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko added goals late on in the game.

As for Koln, their only major signing has been the addition of Julian Chabot into the defence from Sampdoria, as they have also lost out on Ondrej Duda to Hellas Verona for a small fee.

Koln finished 11th last season with just 10 wins on the board and 12 losses too.

The club also scored the fewest goals inside the top 11 with only 48 going in for them and 47 conceded too. In reality, not much is expected of Koln in the new season.

Dortmund will likely come back with a vengeance from last season and Forebet expects them to come out flying and deliver an early hammer blow to Koln's confidence in the new season.

Forebet predicts a win here for BVB and for the game to see over 2.5 goals as the players come out with a lot to prove in the 2023/24 campaign.
