Win in Kiev could inspire a turnaround in City’s fortunes

Manchester City’s went into last night’s Champions League last-16 clash with Dynamo Kiev in poor spirits after their domestic stutters of late. However, the Citizens secured a 3-1 win against the Ukrainians champions courtesy of goals from Sergi Aguero, David Silva and Yaya Toure.

The win will give City a timely boost with the Capital One Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday. It may also kick-start a good run of form, which the Citizens desperately to get back into the race for the Premier League title.

At the start of the season most people involved in football predictions had City down as one of the favourites to win the title this season. However, Manuel Pellegrini’s men are currently fourth in the table and six points behind league leaders Leicester City, who could extend that lead against Norwich on Saturday.

Momentum is a vital factor in football and the season that City have won the Premier League title they have built up a strong momentum towards the end of the campaign and finished the season in fine style.

The win means that City could still finish the campaign with three pieces of silverware. That conquest for a treble of trophies begins on Sunday with the league cup final against unpredictable Liverpool.

If Pellegrini’s men can win that game then it will only bode well for the rest of their campaign, both domestically and abroad. The demise of City may have been greatly exaggerated and the Citizens could yet rescue a season that looked to be heading in the wrong direction.
