Jose Mourinho set to agree Manchester United contract
According to the newspaper reports, former-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to join Manchester United on a three-year deal. United have struggled to find their best form under veteran Dutch boss Louis van Gaal and the Red Devils poor campaign could lead to the former-Netherlands boss being replaced.
The Red Devils are currently fifth in the Premier League table after big spending in the summer and January transfer windows. United were expected to challenge for the title this season, but may even struggle to finish in the Champions League spots this season.
The appointment would be designed to get United back to the pinnacle of the English top-flight and counteract Manchester City’s appointment of Pep Guardiola. The pair have done battle in the past in La Liga and in the Champions League.
The 53-year-old has a habit of upsetting the aforementioned Guardiola, beating the Catalan to a La Liga title in 2012 and also knocked the Spaniard’s great Barcelona side out of the Champions League with Inter, who then went on to win the competition.
Mourinho has been out of work since December when his second spell at Chelsea ended due to the Blues losing nine of their 16 games in the Premier League. Despite his sacking at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho is still regarded as one of the most highly-rated bosses in world football.
The prospect of Mourinho being appointed as their boss seems to have been met by a mixed reaction from United fans. Mourinho has a history of winning silverware, but he also has a reputation for being controversial, not unusual for a United boss.
In a lot of observers eyes Mourinho would be a good appointment for United, as he is a serial trophy collector and will also be determined to better old adversary Guardiola.
