Crystal Palace could be set for a summer of change

On Monday night, Crystal Palace left Everton with a 1-1 draw after a late Michy Batshuayi goal secured a point. The home side squandered a host of clear-cut chances to put the game to bed.

However, Palace goalkeeper Vicente Guaita also produced several saves to deny Carlo Ancelotti’s team what would have been a big victory in the race for a European spot for next season.

The draw further confirmed Palace’s status as a Premier League club for another season, as the Eagles moved on to 38 points. Roy Hodgson team looks set for a ninth straight campaign in the English top-flight next season.

The strange thing is that Hodgson, despite seemingly guiding Palace to survival this season, is not guaranteed to be in his job next season.

The 73-year-old is out of contract this summer and there is speculation that he could be set to leave the Eagles.

However, Hodgson is not the only person at Palace’s future is in doubt, as no less than 17 first-team squad members are out of contract with Palace this summer.

Those players include the likes of Patrick van Aanholt, Andros Townsend and Gary Cahill, amongst others. The Eagles could need a major squad rebuild in a few months if those players decide not to renew or the club let them leave. reportedly Palace will not be speaking to any of their out of contract stars until the end of the season about new deals.

If a new head coach does come in, then maybe it will be a blessing that several of the players from Hodgson’s era leave the club and give them something of a fresh start at the club.

Those players would need to be replaced, which could be costly though. Therefore there is a lot to weigh up for Palace.

If Hodgson and the bulk of the out of contract players leave, then it will mean a major summer of change for the Eagles.
