5 midfielders Liverpool could sign before the transfer window closes

When Liverpool lost to Manchester United on Matchday 3 of the Premier League season, pundits and fans blamed Liverpool’s understrength midfield for the defeat.
With Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out injured – and Fabinho on the bench – Jurgen Klopp started James Milner, Jordan Handerson and Harvey Elliott at Old Trafford.
It’s fair to say that Liverpool are in need of reinforcements. So, here are five midfielders Liverpool could sign before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1.
Youri Tielemans
It feels like Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans has been linked with a move to an elite club for a number of years. Granted, Leicester are not a small club. But there is a sense that Tielemans belongs at the top.
The hardworking Belgian is creative, comfortable on the ball and willing to do the dirty work in the centre of the park. Crucially for Liverpool, he is also into the final year of his contract.
Jude Bellingham
There is absolutely no denying that Jude Bellingham is destined for greatness. At 19, the Englishman already has 15 international caps and 94 appearances for Borussia Dortmund under his belt.
Bellingham can do everything. From scoring and assisting goals to pressing and tackling, the supremely gifted teenager possesses all the right attributes to become a world-class midfielder.
Marcelo Brozovic
It has been reported that Marcelo Brozovic is on the radar of both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. Still, a move to Anfield is by no means off the cards this summer.
Inter Milan’s Croatian midfielder has a wealth of experience, having represented his country 74 times. He has almost made just shy of 300 appearances for Inter, picking up a scudetto along the way.
Nicolo Barella
Like Brozovic, Nicolo Barella belongs to Inter. Although he is currently valued at roughly €70 million, it is not inconceivable that Liverpool could make a move for the Euro 2020 winner.
Last season, Jurgen Kloop said, “We’re really happy Barella is not playing,” ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Inter. That tells you everything you need to know about the Italian.
Fabian Ruiz
Fabian Ruiz has been linked with PSG for what feels like forever. But since a move to Paris has yet to come to fruition, there is no reason why Liverpool can’t make an offer for the Spaniard.
The midfielder has less than 12 months left on his Napoli contract, making it easier to strike a deal. At 26, Fabian has the potential to get even better under the guidance of Klopp.
