Bremer: The centre-back top European teams are chasing
1324

The name Gleison Bremer may not mean much to many football fans outside of Italy. In fact, it may not mean much to football fans inside the peninsula that are not Torino supporters.

Yet, Bremer is one of the centre-backs top European teams are chasing. The 25-year-old Brazilian has been flying under the radar at Torino since 2018 when he arrived at the Italian club from Brazil’s Atletico MG for $5.22 million.

Il Toro are likely to cash-in on the bruising Brazilian defender to the tune of £27m or more this offseason as they have accepted losing him.

This season, Bremer has played 32 games, scoring three goals and assisting one goal for a Torino side that has tallied 42 scores. Meanwhile, Bremer has helped Torino become Serie A’s third-best defence. Torino have conceded a paltry 36 goals in 34 Serie A matches.

Bremer has helped Torino keep six clean sheets. The Brazilian has also worn the captain’s armband on 10 occasions, showing just how highly regarded he is in the Torino dressing room.

Regularly fit, Bremer has received a mere seven yellow cards in 2,803 minutes of football. He averages a yellow card approximately every 400 minutes of Serie A play.

Bremer’s stats per match are fantastic and whichever team signs him will be getting a top defender. The Brazilian averages 3.5 interceptions, 1.4 tackles, 4.0 clearances, and 4.2 aerials won per 90 minutes.

Manchester United and Liverpool are two English clubs currently linked with Bremer’s signature. The former needs a centre-back desperately, while it feels like the latter’s link to Bremer is simply rumours made up by football journalists.

Inter Milan, Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Torino’s city rival, Juventus, are also linked with Bremer’s signature. The Nerazzurri are reportedly the current leader in the race to sign the Brazilian, however.

Bremer is turning heads around Europe and a move away from Torino is set for the offseason. The defender signed a contract extension in February, but the extended deal won’t put off any teams seeking his signature this summer.

The new contract protected Bremer’s value to avoid a rival club getting a knock-down price. Torino are in a strong position to get a high fee for Bremer after the extension was agreed as the new deal added 12 months to contract.

Torino are looking at a nice windfall of cash this summer. It will do the club well as captain Andrea Belotti is leaving on a free transfer.

Bremer’s potential is high thanks to his positional awareness. He could transform the defence of whichever club he joins in the offseason.
