There is no hiding the fact that players from Europe, South America and Africa generally boast the biggest market values. Still, there is no shortage of valuable Asian players out there.

So, who are the most valuable Asian football players in 2022? Let’s take a look at the top five.

• 5. Mehdi Taremi (Iran and FC Porto) – €17m

Mehdi Taremi started his professional career at Iranian side Shahin Bushehr. After making a name for himself on home soil, the striker moved to Portuguese club Rio Ave before joining FC Porto in 2020.

The 29-year-old has been extremely prolific since signing for Porto, racking up 42 goals and 34 assists in 89 appearances. He has also scored 27 goals in 57 games for his country.

• 4. Daichi Kamada (Japan and Eintracht Frankfurt) – €22m

Over the past few years, Daichi Kamada has become a key player for Eintracht Frankfurt. Indeed, the hardworking Japanese midfielder is closing in on 100 Bundesliga appearances for the Eagles.

Kamada has made 37 appearances in all competitions this season, chipping in with seven goals and two assists. Although he often operates in an advanced role, he is an excellent all-round midfielder.

• 3. Takehiro Tomiyasu (Japan and Arsenal) – €25m

When Takehiro Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, nobody could have predicted the impact that he would make at the Emirates. Nonetheless, he made the right-back spot his own.

Unfortunately, the Japan international has missed much of the second half of the season through injury. But having proved his worth to Mikel Arteta, he shouldn’t struggle to regain his place in the Gunners’ starting XI.

• 2. Sardar Azmoun (Iran and Bayer Leverkusen) – €25m

Sardar Azmoun recently earned himself a move to Bayer Leverkusen after chalking up 62 goals and 23 assists in 104 matches for Zenit St Petersburg. Needless to say, that is an impressive record.

In addition to his 40 goals in 62 international outings, Azmoun is the youngest Iranian to score in the Champions League – as well as the highest-scoring Iranian in the competition’s history.

• 1. Son Heung-min (South Korea and Tottenham Hotspur) – €80m

If you already know a thing or two about football, you won’t be surprised to learn that Son Heung-min is the most valuable Asian player in 2022. Boasting a market value of €80m, he claims the accolade by some distance.

The Tottenham forward has been in excellent form this season, notching 18 goals and eight assists in all competitions. That means the South Korean has registered 125 goals and 72 assists for Spurs since 2015.
