Kane and Son are officially the deadliest duo in Premier League history
2142

When Harry Kane set up Son Heung-min for Tottenham Hotspurs’ fourth and final goal against Leeds United last weekend, the pair made history.

Kane and Son combined for a record 37th Premier League goal, meaning they have racked more goal combinations than any other duo in the history of the league.

Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard previously held the record after enjoying huge success at Chelsea. However, Kane and Son are now the most prolific Premier League duo of all time.

  • Harry Kane and Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur) – 37
  • Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard (Chelsea) – 36
  • Sergio Aguero and David Silva (Manchester City) – 29
  • Thierry Henry and Robert Pires (Arsenal) – 29
  • Darren Anderton and Teddy Sheringham (Tottenham Hotspur) – 27

The pair also broke a record last term by recording the most goal combinations in a single Premier League season (14). That eclipsed Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton’s effort of 13 during the 1994/95 campaign.

Many people questioned whether the deadly duo could continue to post those kinds of numbers this season, but they have proved their doubters wrong.

Son has chalked up ten goals and six assists in the Premier League this term, while Kane has contributed eight goals and three assists.

The link-up started back in 2016 when Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen. The pair combined for six Premier League goals during the 2016/17 campaign before combining for a further six the following season.

Kane and Son combined for four Premier League goals in both the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaign. In 2020/21, they enjoyed their most prolific season to date – combining for a record-breaking 14 league goals.

This season, they have combined for three Premier League goals. Kane set up Son against Newcastle in October before Son returned to favour against Manchester City last month. Last weekend, Kane assisted Son to break the record.

Kane and Son have moved ahead of some illustrious names on the Premier League’s goal combinations leaderboard, including Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

If they carry on the way they’re going, they will almost certainly open up a sizeable gap between them and the rest of the duo’s on the list.
