Michail Antonio once again proving his worth to the Hammers

Michail Antonio once again proving his worth to the Hammers
2198

There are certain forward players in the Premier League that on their day are simply unplayable. One of those stars is West Ham’s experienced forward Michail Antonio.

The 31-year-old has established himself as one of the most dangerous frontmen in the English top-flight. This season Antonio has already scored three goals and produced an assist in two top-flight appearances, having also missed a penalty kick.

His goals this season mean he is now West Ham’s joint-top Premier League goalscorer with 50 goals.

The good early season form will not come as a major surprise, as Antonio has got into double figures for goals in the last two Premier League campaigns. If it were not for injury problems, those figures could be even more impressive.

That seems to be the only issue for Antonio, avoiding injuries problems, that seem to have plagued him in recent campaigns. If he can stay injury-free then like last season, West Ham could be challengers for the top-six in the Premier League.

Hammers head coach David Moyes has done a fantastic job and Antonio is the focal point of the Irons team. One problem for the Irons is that they do not have any real backup striker.

In-form winger Said Benrahma can play up front, but he offers different attributes and moving the Algerian centrally would mean his threat from out wide is negated.

In short, Michail Antonio’s importance to West Ham cannot be overestimated.

Even when he is not scoring goals, he doesn’t give opposing defences a second’s rest, as he is always pressing opposition defences and creating chances for his teammates.

The 31-year-old may be one of the most underrated players in the English top-flight. However, no doubt the experienced forward will continue to impress for the Hammers and enjoy his time in the limelight.
