The 2021/22 English Premier League season begins on Friday the 13th of August with a match between newly promoted Brentford and Arsenal.

It will be an interesting season for both teams as Brentford are expected to be battling against relegation while arsenal fans will expect to see a significant improvement from their team.

However, in terms of the Premier League title it is difficult to look beyond the defending champions, Manchester City. Pep Guardiola has not been particularly busy in the transfer market but they made a huge statement with the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. The England international midfielder was purchased for £100 million, a British record but he is sure to be a great addition for Manchester City this season.

The Citizens have lost legendary striker, Sergio Aguero, but the Argentine has not been a key player the club in recent years. All the top players have remained at Manchester City and should they add Harry Kane to their ranks, it is going to be almost impossible for the other clubs to stop them retaining their title.

Perhaps the best placed team to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season is Liverpool. They have Virgil van Dijk back in the team and he will make a significant difference to their chances of winning the league.

Ibrahima Konaté is a good addition in defence with the only doubt being in central midfield, following the departure of Georginio Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain.

The good news is both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have had a summer of rest, meaning they should be firing on all cylinders at the start of the season. However, both players will miss some Premier League games as they travel to the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Chelsea won the Champions League last season and must be considered a contender for the Premier League title. The Blues have yet to make any significant moves in the transfer market but have been strongly linked with a bid for Romelu Lukaku.

There is a belief that Chelsea are one good striker away from being the finished article and if the Belgian was to arrive back at Stamford Bridge, it would make Chelsea an extremely dangerous team. Without a top striker, they may struggle to keep pace with Manchester City and Liverpool.

Manchester United have made two significant signings this summer, with the addition of Jadon Sancho and Raphaël Varane, the latter of which is set to be announced this week. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has improved two key areas of the team that were lacking last season but the feeling is they are still a world class holding midfield player away from challenging for the title.

In terms of the Premier League top scorer, we are likely to see another battle between Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah. It really is between those two but this is a big season for Raheem Sterling, who is coming off the back of a great European Championship and could feature more regularly for Manchester in the Premier League this season.

Jamie Vardy and Patrick Bamford will be aiming high plus we could see a huge improvement on last season from both Sadio Mane and Timo Werner in-front of goal.
