Danny Ings is a top signing for Aston Villa

Danny Ings is a top signing for Aston Villa
2017

Earlier this week Aston Villa signed forward Danny Ings from Southampton for an undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of £25million. The deal came out of nowhere, as there was little speculation about the move.

The club from the Midlands has just received an English record transfer fee of £100m from Manchester City for England midfielder Jack Grealish. It seems that they are wasting no time in using the money to strengthen their team overall.

Ings looks to be a fine addition to the squad. He has performed exceptionally well for the Saints in the Premier League, scoring 41 goals in 91 appearances in his three-year stint on the south coast.

At 29, Ings is in his prime for a striker, despite cynics questioning the fee for a player of his age. The fee is not a massive one if he scores the goals that fires Villa into Europe over the next few seasons.

His scoring record at Southampton is also impressive considering he didn’t always have the best or most creative players around him.

He should have a good supply line at Villa, even if the exit of Grealish makes the Villans less creative. The summer additions of winger Leon Bailey and playmaker Emiliano Buendia have arguably made Dean Smith’s team better all around.

They have lost Grealish’s talent, but they have brought in two highly creative players, plus Ings with the midfielder’s fee.

The Villa team is looking more and more exciting by the week. The exit of Jack Grealish will hurt their fans. However, the Villa should be highly entertaining to watch next season, which will be a big comfort to the fans.

If his recent seasons are anything to go by then Danny Ings could turn out to be one of the bargains of the summer in the Premier League market.
