2176

At the ripe old age of 36, Cristiano Ronaldo clinched the Euro 2020 Golden Boot – adding yet another individual accolade to his bustling trophy cabinet.

The legendary forward bagged five goals and one assist in 391 minutes of action, with four of his strikes coming from the penalty spot.

Although Portugal were knocked out by Belgium in the Round of 16, no player scored more goals than Ronaldo at this summer’s European Championship.

The Czech Republic’s Patrik Schick also scored five goals at Euro 2020, yet he was denied a share of the Golden Boot.

UEFA’s rules state in the eventuality of two of more players being tied on the same number of goals, the player with the most assists will be deemed the winner.

Ronaldo notched one assist during the Euros, while Shick failed to register an assist – handing Ronaldo the Golden Boot.

Below is a list of the players that scored 4+ goals at Euro 2020.

• Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) – 5 goals, 1 assist

• Patrik Schick (Czech Republic) – 5 goals

• Emil Forsberg (Sweden) – 4 goals

• Romelu Lukaku (Belgium) – 4 goals

• Harry Kane (England) – 4 goals

• Karim Benzema (France) – 4 goals

Ronaldo kicked off his European Championship campaign by bagging a brace in Portugal’s 3-0 victory over Hungary on Matchday 1.

In his next outing, the Portuguese megastar racked up one goal and one assist as his side suffered a 4-2 defeat to Germany.

Ronaldo then chalked up his second double of the tournament on Matchday 3, earning Portugal a 2-2 draw with 2018 World Cup winners France.

However, he failed to find the back of the next against Belgium in the last 16 – meaning he wasn’t able to add to his Euro 2020 tally.

Ronaldo’s international record now stands at a phenomenal 109 goals in 179 appearances, with his debut coming all the way back in August 2003.

18 years later, the prolific forward is a handful of goals away from becoming the greatest goalscorer in the history of international football.

Ronaldo’s outrageous longevity has enabled him to feature in five European Championships and four World Cups over the years.

With the 2022 World Cup less than 500 days away, Ronaldo looks set to extend his remarkable record in Qatar next year.
