Atletico Madrid to worsen Celta Vigo’s La Liga plight

On Saturday evening, Atletico Madrid hosts Celta Vigo at the Wanda Metropolitano, in a potentially vital game for the visitors.

Atletico Madrid head into this game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at league leaders Barcelona last time out in La Liga. The defeat all-but ended Los Rojiblancos’ chances of winning the title, as Diego Simeone’s side trail the reigning champions by 11 points.

The team from the Spanish capital will still want to finish the season on a positive note, though. In truth, the defeat was part of an inconsistent run of recent form in the Spanish top-flight, as Atletico have won six and lost four of their last ten league matches.

Most of Atletico’s problems of late have come away from home, as they have won seven of their last eight matches at the Wanda Metropolitano. The home side has also kept clean sheets in all seven victories.

Celta Vigo are just two points above the relegation zone after an unconvincing campaign in the Spanish top-flight, despite a recent upturn in their fortunes in La Liga.

The visitors have taken seven points from a possible nine, picking up wins against Villarreal and Real Sociedad, while also drawing with Huesca. All three games have seen over 3.5 goals scored. However, a record of just three wins in 16 La Liga games goes a long way to explaining their perilous position in the table.

Celta’s away form in the Spanish top-flight has also had a bearing on their league position, as the visitors have failed to win in eight matches on their travels, suffering six defeats in the process.

Celta have struggled to keep the opposition out on their travels in the Spanish top-flight, conceding at least two goals in 10 of their last 12 away games in La Liga.

Forebet predicts that Atletico will add to Celta’s problems by recording a victory in a high scoring game.
