This weekend’s Premier League main event has been saved for Sunday afternoon, as Liverpool and Tottenham square off at Anfield.

This is a game that although the overall objectives have slightly differed as of late, the outcome that both sides are hoping for is exactly the same.

For Liverpool it is making sure that they don’t cede any ground whatsoever in terms of the race for the Premier League title and whether they start this game first or second in the table, they can ill afford to drop any points.

If Manchester City do win at Craven Cottage as expected, then it will mean that Pep Guardiola’s men will go back to the top of the table and in turn, it will ask another big question of this swashbuckling Liverpool side.

While for Tottenham, it is a case of finding a victory that would see them return to winning ways – something that they will have to do, if they are to still be in the top four of the table come the end of this gameweek.

Mauricio Pochettino will once again be absent from Tottenham’s technical area, as he serves the second of his two-match disciplinary ban and he will have to hope that his players are better at taking on instructions this time around.

That’s because before the international break the Argentine had to witness his superstar squad fall to a 2-1 defeat away at Southampton and that is something that would have rankled even more, when you consider that the Saints were his previous employers.

However, it can be argued as to what real difference his voice on the touchline would have made to the final score and especially when you consider, that Tottenham missed a whole host of first half chances to put the game to bed.

That means it is only one point from the last twelve on offer for the North Londoners and the comfortable margin of error they had between them and the trio of clubs behind them, has all but been eroded.

Although it is a ‘must-win’ game for both clubs, you do get the feeling that the pressure is perhaps more on the shoulders of Liverpool and that is something that could play into the hands of the travelling Tottenham side.

Tottenham will go into this clash playing the role of underdogs and to be honest, that is one that arguably suits them more. When no-one gives them a chance, they have a habit of then surprising everyone who doubts them.

Liverpool left it late against Fulham in their last outing before the international break and although they were not at their brilliant best, they set out what they needed to do and that was coming away from West London with all three points.

After making difficult work of Fulham, Jurgen Klopp will know that Liverpool will have to turn on the charm this Sunday and although this is a game that both teams will be aiming to win, it might end up being a draw – a result that does no-one any real favours.
