On Wednesday night, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal go head-to-head at San Mames in La Liga.

Athletic have endured an inconsistent start to their campaign in the Spanish top-flight, having picked up six points from their opening four league games in La Liga.

The boys from Bilbao kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 win over Leganes before draws in their last three league outings against Huesca, Real Madrid and Real Betis.

The home side’s La Liga games this season have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four outings. Both teams have also scored in all four of their league matches this season.

Athletic do not have a great recent home record in La Liga. They may be unbeaten in three home games in the league, but the home side has now won just two of their last eight league games on their own patch.

Bilbao have found it hard to keep out the opposition on home soil of late in La Liga, as they have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight league games at San Mames.

Like their hosts, Villarreal have endured a mixed start to their campaign in La Liga, picking up just five points from as many games in the Spanish top-flight. Last time out the Yellow Submarine drew 0-0 with Valencia.

The draw against Los Ches means that Villarreal have now won just one of their last six matches in the Spanish top-flight. Their recent league games have also been low scoring with under 1.5 goals in their last four outings.

Villarreal do not have a great recent record on their travels either, although the visitors have lost just one of their last five away games in La Liga on their travels.

Forebet predicts that these two teams will cancel each other out and the game will finish in a low scoring draw.
