Lyon set to clinch Champions League spot

On Saturday night, Lyon can seal a place in the Champions League for next season by recording a victory over Nice at the Groupama Stadium.

Bruno Genesio’s side have enjoyed a stellar campaign in Ligue One and currently occupy the Champions League qualifying spot in the French top-flight.

The home side’s success this season has been built on their effectiveness in front of goal. Only PSG have scored more goals in Ligue 1 this season than OL. In fact, the home side have scored two or more goals in their last eight Ligue One outings.

A shock 3-2 defeat at Strasbourg in their last league game brought to an end an eight-match winning run in the French top-flight.

Genesio’s side have also been strong on home soil in Ligue 1, winning their last five straight games at the Groupama Stadium, without conceding a goal. OL have also scored at least two goals in their last four home league outings.

Nice have pulled themselves up to sixth-place in the French top-flight table after a poor start to their league campaign.

Lucien Favre’s team are still 20 points behind Marseille who occupy the last European spot in the French top-flight. That gap is largely due to majorly inconsistent form throughout the season. Recent games have been a good example of their inconsistent form, as the visitors have won just two of their last six league games.

Their games have been good for goals of late, as both teams have scored in five of their last six Ligue One outings.

Nice’s recent away form in Ligue 1 has also been poor, as the visitors have won just twice in the last ten outings on their travels. Both teams have scored in four of their last five away outings in the French top-flight.

Forebet predicts that Lyon will record a victory in a high scoring encounter that would give the home side a place in the Champions League qualifiers for next season.
