Tottenham’s recent stuttering form has seen London rivals Chelsea sneak up behind them in the race for the Champions League spots. Spurs head into Wednesday night’s home game against Newcastle just two points above the Blues in the table.

Spurs recent form has dipped, with a number of their key players looking jaded after a long season. The home side has now won just once in their last four league matches. Last time out Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat at struggling West Brom.

The north London club has been involved in a number of low scoring league games of late, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last three top-flight games.

One positive for Spurs heading into this game is the fact they have won five of their last six league matches on home soil. Pochettino’s side has also scored two or more goals in eight of their last ten league outings at Wembley.

Newcastle are aiming for a top-ten finish after securing their top-flight status for another season with games to spare. The Magpies seem to have switched off in the Premier League, as they have now lost their last three league matches.

Last time out Rafa Benitez’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat at mid-table rivals Watford. The defeat means that the north east outfit has recorded just one win in their last seven Premier League away games. In fact, the visitors have won just three of their last 16 away games in the Premier League.

One factor that may give the visitors hope of a victory in this clash is the fact that they have won on three of their last four visits to Tottenham in all competitions. However, all those previous games were at White Hart Lane and not Wembley.

Forebet predicts that Tottenham will record a potentially crucial victory in a high scoring encounter.
