AFC Wimbledon set to secure League One safety

AFC Wimbledon set to secure League One safety

On Tuesday night, Doncaster Rovers host AFC Wimbledon at the Keepmoat Stadium in a vital League One game for the visitors.

Doncaster have endured a mixed campaign in the third tier of English football and currently sit 15th place in the table. A run of just one win in their last six league games scuppered any hopes of claiming a play-off spot.

Last time out Rovers drew 0-0 with struggling Oldham Athletic. It was the third league game in a row in which the home side had failed to score. It was also the fourth time in six league games that Darren Ferguson’s side had failed to find the net.

Rovers recent home form has been a big factor in their current position, as they have won just two of their last eight outings at the Keepmoat in the league. The Yorkshire outfit has also failed to win in their last three home games in the league, losing twice and drawing once.

Wimbledon could secure their League One status for next season by avoiding defeat, as they are three points clear of the relegation zone, having played one game less than 21st place Rochdale.

A 1-1 draw with promoted Wigan last time out means that the Dons are now unbeaten in five League One games, having recorded three wins and two draws.

Neal Ardley’s side has been involved in a number of low scoring games of late in the third tier, with six of their last eight outings producing under 2.5 goals.

The Dons have a poor recent away record in League One, winning just one of their last eight games on their travels in the third tier. However, they have picked up four points from their last two away games in the league, so will in confident mood heading into this clash.

Forebet predicts that the Dons will secure their League One status by recording a low scoring victory in Yorkshire.
