On Sunday afternoon, Atletico Madrid host Athletic Bilbao at the Wanda Metropolitano in La Liga, as the home side look to keep their faint hopes of winning the Spanish league title alive.

Atletico are currently second in La Liga and leaders Barcelona are now just seven points ahead of Diego Simeone’s side in the race for the Spanish title.

A recent run of five wins in their last six games in La Liga has helped improved Atletico’s chances of recording an unlikely title triumph this season. Last time out, the men from Madrid recorded a 1-0 win at struggling Malaga.

The home side’s recent La Liga games have been low scoring, as eight of their last nine games in the Spanish top-flight have produced under 2.5 goals.

Simeone’s side have a very good home record at the Wanda Metropolitano in La Liga, as they are unbeaten in 13 home league games. Los Rojiblancos have also won five of their last six home games in the Spanish top-flight and kept clean sheets in four of their last five games.

Athletic have enjoyed mixed fortunes in La Liga this season. The team from the Basque country are currently 13th place in the Spanish top-flight table, eight points behind Sevilla who occupy the last European spot in La Liga.

Athletic have drawn four out of their last five games in La Liga, but have lost just once in their last 13 games in the Spanish top-flight, illustrating their mixed fortunes perfectly. Last time out in La Liga, the visitors drew 0-0 with struggling Las Palmas.

Jose Angel Ziganda’s side have been involved in a number of low scoring games of late, with seven of their last eight league games producing under 2.5 goals.

This game could be a tight one. However, Forebet predicts that Atletico will record a narrow victory in a high-scoring encounter.
