Serie A resumes this weekend following the European fixtures in mid-week and Inter Milan travel to Genoa on Saturday night as they continue their pursuit of a Champions League place for next season.
Genoa were flirting with the relegation zone at one stage this campaign but are currently in mid-table, 10 points clear of the drop zone. They are aiming to have a strong finish to the season and climb as high as possible in Serie A.
Inter Milan start the weekend in 3rd place but the top two have pulled away, leaving them battling for a top four place. Roma, Lazio and possibly Sampdoria are also in the hunt for the top four.
Genoa come into this match having won their two previous Serie A matches. They enjoyed a great 2-1 win at Lazio two weeks ago and followed that up with a 1-0 win at Chievo Verona. Both games were away from home and Genoa will be aiming to produce the same kind of performance in-front of their own fans.
Home form shows Genoa have lost two of their last six home games in all competitions and this is a lot better than what they produced early in the campaign.
Trends show Genoa failed to win any of their first nine Serie A home matches of the season and it wasn’t until the defeat of Benevento on the 23rd December they finally got off the mark. Since then, they have defeated Sassuolo 1-0 at home but lost 1-0 to Udinese last time out.
Genoa are scoring an average of 0.79 goals in Serie A games this season, making them one of the least entertaining teams to watch.
Inter Milan finally picked up the win they were desperate for last weekend as they defeated Bologna 2-1 at the San Siro. This result ended a period of ten games without a win for the Nerazzurri, with the only positive result coming in a penalty shoot-out win in the Coppa Italia.
Prior to the win over Bologna last week, Inter Milan had lost two and drawn six Serie A games, which ended any hopes of challenging the top two this season.
However, trends show they have lost just one away match in the league this season, which was a 1-0 loss at Sassuolo but have scored only 2 goals in their last four on the road. Inter Milan have seen under 2.5 goals in their last four away league games.
Looking ahead to the team news and Genoa are without Miguel Veloso and Armando Izzo who are both injured. Andrej Galabinov may be in the squad but is likely to start in the bench.
Inter Milan have every player available for this match and Luciano Spalletti must decide if he wants to keep faith with Yann Karamoh following his goal last week.
This could be a very tight match, with little in the way of goal scoring opportunities for both teams. Therefore, we could see under 2.5 goals in this game.
