Magpies to add to Villans misery on Monday night

Two of the teams that were relegated from the Premier League last season meet in the Championship on Monday night, as Newcastle host Aston Villa at St James Park.

The two teams have experienced very different fortunes in the second tier since relegation last season. While Newcastle look to be heading straight back to the top-flight, Villa are struggling to even maintain their status in the second tier.

Newcastle under Rafa Benitez has looked highly consistent this season and currently sit second in the Championship table. A win over the side from the Midlands would see the Magpies leapfrog Brighton in the table and return to the summit.

The Magpies have adjusted well to life in the second tier after some shrewd summer transfers from high-profile boss Benitez. The side from the north east will be confident of maintaining their six-match unbeaten run in the Championship in this clash.

Newcastle’s home form in the Championship has been decent with seven wins from their last ten games on home soil at St James Park. The Magpies have also picked up ten points from a possible 12 in the second tier.

Aston Villa are going through a poor run of form at the moment and are 17th in the Championship table, just six points clear of the relegation zone. Veteran boss Steve Bruce was appointed to attempt to win promotion, instead, the Villans could be fighting against relegation instead.

The visitor's form has been woeful, as the side from the Midlands have now suffered defeat in six of their last seven league outings. Part of the Villans struggles of late has been their poor away results, as they have won just one of their last ten away league games. In fact, the visitors have lost their last five away games in the Championship.

Forebet predicts that Newcastle will only add to Villa’s woes in this clash and return to the top of the Championship table.
