Hull will test United in the EFL Cup

Since the arrival of Portuguese boss Marco Silva at Hull, the Tigers have looked a far more solid outfit. On Thursday that improvement will be put to the test as the injury-hit Tigers take on Manchester United in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg at the KCOM Stadium.

The Tigers suffered a narrow 2-0 defeat in the first leg of the tie at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils only took the lead on 56 minutes through Juan Mata and secured victory late on through a goal from Marouane Fellaini.

The Tigers have since secured a vital Premier League victory over Bournemouth, before last time out suffering a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea. Despite defeats at both United and Chelsea, the Tigers showed in both performances that they are improving under Silva.

Hull are injury-plagued at the moment, including unfortunate midfielder Ryan Mason who fractured his skull in the game against Chelsea.

Manchester United’s recent good form has been stalled by successive draws in the Premier League against Liverpool and Stoke. However, the Red Devils will be favourites to do enough to seal their place in next month’s final.

The visitors will be determined to maintain their 17-game unbeaten record in all competitions, as they aim to win their first trophy under Jose Mourinho. United will be highly confident of a win, as they have beaten the Tigers in nine of the last ten meetings.

Unsurprisingly United have won on their last four visits to Hull in all competitions, scoring three or more goals in all four of those victories.

The odds are against Hull overcoming the two-goal deficit from the first leg. However, the Tigers are unlikely to make it easy for Jose Mourinho’s side in this clash and the game could be a close one at the KCOM Stadium.
