Manchester City host SPL champions Celtic at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night in the Champions League, as the Citizens attempt to recover from a 3-1 home defeat by Chelsea last time out.
The defeat against league leaders Chelsea confirmed that Pep Guardiola still has a lot of work to do to turn City into a major force in the Premier League. This game may be meaningless in the fact that City have already made the last-16, but the Citizens will hope that the win will lift the team and supporters spirits.
The defeat against Chelsea was City’s first in seven games in all competitions. That run of games included a 3-1 win for Guardiola’s side in this competition against Spanish giants Barcelona. City’s recent record in this competition is good, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last seven outings.
The side from Manchester’s home record in Europe’s elite competition is good too, as they are unbeaten in eight games in the competition, having recorded six wins in the process.
Celtic have been dominant in their domestic league, but have found this competition difficult. Brendan Rodgers side have picked up just two points from their five group games so far this season. The Hoops have also not won in seven Champions League games now.
However, the Scottish champions did record a 3-3 draw with City in the reverse fixture at Celtic Park. Striker Moussa Dembele scored a brace that night and will be once again looking to enhance his blossoming reputation in this one.
Forebet predicts a Manchester City win that would maybe lift the spirits of the supporters. However, whatever happens, the Citizens fans are safe in the knowledge that they will be in the knockout stages of the competition in the new year.
