Spurs pose a big threat to City’s perfect EPL start
Tottenham host Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon with the two teams heading into the clash as two of the main the Premier League title challengers.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has been steadily building a very strong team in north London over the past few years. Last season’s challenge for the Premier League title has been followed by a good start to this season, with Spurs accruing four wins and two draws from their six league games so far.
Spurs are the only team other than Sunday’s opponents to have remained unbeaten so far this season. The only negative for Spurs at the moment is that star striker Harry Kane is currently sidelined through injury.
However, Kane’s injury has not hamstrung Pochettino’s side in recent games, though, as they have recorded four consecutive victories in all competitions. South Korean star Heung-Min Son has scored three times in his last two appearances for Spurs. He will no doubt cause City’s defence problems in this clash.
City, of course, have made a perfect start to their Premier League campaign, winning six out of six in the top-flight. In fact, the Citizens had won all their competitive games under Guardiola until a midweek 3-3 draw with Celtic in the Champions League.
The visitors had looked imperious under Guardiola prior to their trip to Celtic Park. However, the Citizens poor defensive display raised question marks about the City defence. Those have been the only real concerns in Guardiola’s reign so far at City.
Guardiola will be confident that his side will bounce back to winning ways, although Spurs are likely to offer a major threat to that perfect Premier League record. Tottenham have won the last two meetings between the two teams, which will give the home side confidence heading into the game.
Manchester City are Premier League title favourites, but it really would not be a major surprise if this game finishes all square.
