Palace and Watford have chance to make history

The second FA Cup semi-final on Sunday between Crystal Palace and Watford gives both teams the chance to create a bit of history, as neither has ever won the famous old trophy.

However, both have experience of losing a final and it could be a case of history repeating itself for both teams. Everton and Manchester United face off in the other semi-final, which is considered by some as the more glamourous of the two ties in the last four of the competition.

Watford’s only ever FA Cup final appearance came in 1984, when Graham Taylor’s side were beaten 2-0 by the great Everton side of the 1980’s. The Hornets may get their chance of revenge if the two teams get through to the final this year.

Crystal Palace’s only FA Cup final appearances came in 1990 against Manchester United. A pulsating final finished in a 3-3 draw and a replay saw Lee Martin score the only goal of the game to break Palace’s hearts.

Palace could also get a chance to avenge their defeat if they can overcome the Hornets and United defeat Everton on Saturday.

In truth both of these teams have struggled to hit form this season and their poor form has made it hard for those who produce football predictions to guess which side will prevail in this clash.

However for both sides Sunday’s game is a golden opportunity for them to put to bed the demons of past FA Cup finals and create their own bit of history by winning the trophy for the first time.
