Liverpool had a near perfect 2018/19 campaign, suffering just one league defeat whilst claiming the Champions League trophy.
With title rivals Manchester City strengthening their squad and the pressure on Liverpool to succeed again, can The Reds continue to progress under Jurgen Klopp?
Last season
The Reds enjoyed a fantastic campaign which saw Jurgen Klopp claim his first trophy as Liverpool manager. The club won the Champions League and narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.
Their 97 points would have been enough to win the league in 25 of the past 27 seasons however Manchester City eventually pipped them to the post.
Center-back Virgil van Dijk and Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson both had stellar campaigns and the hefty transfer fees paid to acquire their services were ultimately justified by the players.
Liverpool also finished with two Golden Boot winners in their ranks last season. Forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane shared the award with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after all three players scored 22 league goals.
Next season
It’s hard to say whether or not Liverpool will be able to emulate last season’s successes. Whilst it’s difficult to find a weakness in a team that reached nearly 100 Premier League points and won the Champions League, there is always room for improvement.
Liverpool have a settled back line and freighting attacking options but lacked creativity at times last season. In Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho, they possess a number of hard-working defensive midfielders but they all do a very similar job for the team. The squad would definitely benefit from the addition of a creative midfielder.
The return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will feel like a new signing for The Reds. The 25-year-old was sidelined for the majority of last season due to injury but his reintroduction to the side could bring the spark that Klopp requires to light up Liverpool’s midfield.
The development of full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will also be key for Liverpool next season. The pair notched up a whopping 23 Premier League assists between them last term and continuing such impressive service throughout the upcoming campaign will seriously benefit the team.

Predicted league finish
2nd. Liverpool will continue to grow under Klopp however Manchester City's strength in depth means that The Reds may have to settle for second best again.
