Last season
The 2018/19 campaign was overshadowed by the death of owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha who was tragically killed in a helicopter crash.
On the field, The Foxes found it hard to get going and manager Claude Puel was sacked in February following a string of poor results.
Brendan Rodgers was appointed as his successor and the former Liverpool manager reverted to a possession orientated style of play. This suited the club’s exciting young players and saw Leicester finish the Premier League season in ninth place.
Next season
The 2019/20 campaign could be a big one for Leicester. Fans and players alike will no doubt be looking forward to a full season under the management of Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman brought life back to the King Power Stadium last season and the prospect of challenging for European football is a strong possibility.
Youri Tielemans was one of the club’s standout performers last season whilst on loan from Monaco. Leicester have managed to secure his services on a permanent basis to the delight of the fans and he will play a key role in the team’s progression this year.
James Maddison will also be looking to continue on from an impressive 2018/19 campaign. He had a successful debut season in England’s top flight, netting seven goals whilst picking up seven assists and if he can build on those figures, Leicester could could better last season’s ninth place finish.
Other young players such as Demarai Gray, Ben Chilwell, Harvey Barnes and Hamza Choudhury were all given chances to prove themselves in the first team last season and must be eager to continue to establish themselves as top flight regulars.
The Foxes have the potential to be one of the surprises of the season. With the right blend of youth and experience coupled with some shrewd business in the summer transfer window, expect Brendan Rodger’s side to play free-flowing and exciting football next term.
