Can Arsenal Win the Premier League this Season?

There is much talk about the potential destination of the Premier League title, with Liverpool and Manchester City the two teams in the discussion.

Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Bournemouth means they closed the gap to just 1 point with Liverpool at the top on 60 points.

However, Arsenal are just 2 points behind the leaders in third place yet seem to be widely ignored in the race for the title.

In their latest Premier League game, Arsenal thrashed Newcastle United 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium, delivering a superior performance to that of Manchester City at Bournemouth earlier in the day.

The dominant display was the 6th successive win for The Gunners in the Premier League. Arsenal’s combination of intensity and dominance on the ball was too much for the visitors, who were split open multiple times.

The win 4-1 over Newcastle United means Arsenal have scored 25 goals in their 6 most recent Premier League fixtures.

They have been superb in-front of goal but have also been tight at the back. During their run of 6 wins in the league, Arsenal have conceded only 3 goals, which is a tremendous record.

It is clear Arsenal are operating extremely efficiently right now in the Premier League and look well set for a title challenge.

Interestingly, having beaten Newcastle United, Arsenal became only the sixth team to win their first 6 Premier League games of the calendar year.

Furthermore, the last three teams to win their opening 6 Premier League fixtures of the calendar year have gone on to win the title.

It is the first time Arsenal’s history they have started a year with 6 consecutive league wins.

Thanks to their goal scoring exploits, Arsenal have become the first team in Premier League history to score 2 or more goals in seven successive halves of football.

There is no doubt the stats are looking favourable for Arsenal but they found themselves in an even stronger position last season and fell away.

Arsenal were top of the Premier League for 30 of the 38 weeks of the season. Trends show they won 7 Premier League matches in a row between the 18th of February and the 1st of April but it still was not enough to finish top.

Three successive draws against Liverpool, West Ham United, and Southampton plus a 4-1 loss at Manchester City saw The Gunners slip to second place and that is where they stayed.

Mikel Arteta will draw upon the experience of last season to try and ensure Arsenal do not fall away this season.

Arsenal have some tough fixtures remaining in the Premier League, including Manchester City, Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United away in addition to the visit of Cheslea and Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.

It can be argued Arsenal have the toughest run of games of all three title contenders. However, if they can maintain the same standard shown in their 6 most recent Premier League fixtures, Arsenal could emerge as the 2023/24 Premier League champions.
