Barcelona to edge El Clasico win over Real Madrid

Well, this is the one everyone’s been waiting for as it’s El Clasico time again in Spain as Barcelona play host to old foes Real Madrid at the Nou Camp and the situation couldn’t be tighter with both teams level on points at the top of La Liga prior to this crucial clash on Wednesday night.

In fact, with both teams sitting on 35 points apiece, it’s just a mere margin of 2 goals in Barcelona’s favour which separates them from Real Madrid ahead of this 179th encounter between these two age-old rivals.

Barcelona have been in sublime form at home as they possess a 100% winning record, scoring a total of 30 goals and conceding just 9 from their 7 home matches in La Liga so far this season, and as well as remaining unbeaten at home this season domestically, Barcelona are also unbeaten in their last 8 matches in all competitions.

The hosts have also won their last 14 matches at home on the trot in La Liga with 12 of these 14 victories producing 2 goals or more from Barcelona, and with the likes of their formidable attacking trio of Suarez, Messi and Griezmann, it’s easy to see why as they’ve plundered a total of 27 goals between them so far this term.

Onto Real Madrid, and the visitors’ star seemed to be on the wane in the past few campaigns which wasn’t helped by the departure of coach, Zinedine Zidane, as well as star striker, Cristiano Ronaldo jumping ship to join Italian Serie A giants, Juventus.

However, Real Madrid look to be on their way up again and the return of former coach, Zinedine Zidane, now in his second stint as manager, has certainly boosted the fortunes of the visitors as they’ve put together a 7-match unbeaten run in recent times which includes 5 wins.

Recent victories over Leganes, Eibar, Real Sociedad, Deportivo Alaves and Espanyol have helped maintain Real Madrid’s challenge for the La Liga title and they’re giving Barcelona a much tougher run for their money than in recent campaigns.

At this level, the margins are so tight though and Real Madrid’s defeat at Mallorca (their only defeat away from home so far this season) does suggest a slight chink in their armour, and they cannot afford another ‘off night’ at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night.

The visitors will undoubtedly be up for this clash though, and in striker Benzema (12 goals), they have a reliable goalscoring talisman worthy of filling Ronaldo’s old boots up front.

As mentioned earlier, this clash does come down to margins and Barcelona have won 4 of the last 6 meetings between these two sides and they could well edge this encounter at the Nou Camp as well.
