It’s second against third in La Liga on Saturday evening, as the 27-time champions travel to Estadi Montilivi to take on the Spanish top flight’s surprise package.

Trailing Barcelona by two points with five games remaining, Girona have the chance to climb the table and reclaim the runner-up spot this weekend.

If you’re looking for stats, trends and analysis, we’ve got you covered. Continue reading to discover what Forebet’s AI algorithm predicts for Saturday’s clash.

Let’s start by looking at the hosts, Girona, who claimed a 2-0 victory over Las Palmas last weekend, courtesy of goals from David Lopez and Artem Dovbyk.

Girona have now won three of their previous four matches, scoring nine goals across those victories, with a 3-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid coming last month.

After losing just one of their opening 23 matches, Girona have stuttered in recent times, recording five wins and five losses in their last 10 encounters.

That said, Girona’s record at Estadi Montilivi is remarkable, as they have recorded 13 wins, two draws and one defeat in 16 home league games this season.

As for Barcelona, they secured a 4-2 victory over Valencia last time out, with Robert Lewandowski netting a second-half hat-trick in the rout.

That result means that Xavi’s side have won five of their last six La Liga clashes, with nine victories coming in their previous 12 league outings.

Barca suffered their first away defeat on the La Liga campaign last month, losing 3-2 against Real Madrid to end a 15-game unbeaten streak on the road.

Having won six of their previous eight away league outings, however, Barcelona will back themselves to pick up a positive result at Estadi Montilivi this weekend.

Head-to-head: Girona won the reverse fixture 4-2 back in December, despite the fact that Barcelona racked up a whopping 31 shots.

That said, Girona have managed to win just one of their last six La Liga meetings with Barca, who have claimed three victories in this fixture since 2018.

Team news: The hosts look set to be without the injured quintet of Ricard Artero, Borja Garcia, Juanpe, Joel Roca and Cristhian Stuani this weekend.

As for the visitors, they are still without long-term absentees Gavi and Alejandro Balde. There are also question marks over the fitness of Frenkie de Jong.

Given Girona’s poor head-to-head record against Barcelona, the hosts could struggle to get the better of the visitors on Saturday.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score at Estadi Montilivi. However, Barcelona are expected to outscore Girona on this occasion.
