A solitary point separates Roma and Fiorentina ahead of their pivotal Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.

With 14 matches in the books, fourth-placed Roma lead sixth-placed Fiorentina in the standings, while the gap to the top three stands at five points.

Can Jose Mourinho’s side keep pace with the early frontrunners? Or will La Viola upset the odds in the capital? It’s time to take a closer look at the teams.

Let's start with the hosts, Roma, who came from behind to beat Sassuolo 2-1 last weekend, courtesy of late goals from Paulo Dybala and Rasmus Kristensen.

That victory extended Roma’s unbeaten run in all competitions to four matches, with two wins and two draws coming since their last loss.

Mourinho’s men have been especially strong on home soil of late, winning each of their previous five Serie A matches at the Stadio Olimpico.

Not only have Roma scored 15 goals across their last five home league games, but they have also kept three clean sheets, conceding just twice for good measure.

As for Fiorentina, they booked their place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday, defeating Parma on penalties to reach the last eight.

After coming from 2-0 down to draw level with Parma, La Viola won 4-1 on penalties, with goalkeeper Oliver Christensen starring between the sticks.

Fiorentina have now avoided defeat in five of their last six games across all competitions, winning two of their previous Serie A matches.

Following a disappointing run of three straight defeats across October and November, La Viola appear to be heading in the right direction again.

Head-to-head: Although Fiorentina have won two of their last three Serie A matches against Roma, La Viola have not enjoyed a huge amount of success in this fixture in recent years.

In fact, Fiorentina have only managed to win two of their previous 10 league meetings with Roma, suffering six defeats in the process.

Team news: Roma are still without the injured trio of Tammy Abraham, Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla.

Fiorentina, on the other hand, have Brazilian defender Dodo and homegrown midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli on the treatment table.

Sunday’s clash looks destined to be a close-fought battle between two European contenders, meaning we should see a tight contest in Rome.

That said, Forebet predicts that Roma will have enough quality to get the better of Fiorentina, who are expected to lose by a single goal.
