Fiorentina Aiming to Keep up Their Stunning Start Against the One-Goal Empoli

Serie A action returns this weekend after an international break with Empoli heading to Florence to meet with Fiorentina where the away side are looking to jump out of the relegation zone after a terrible start to the 2023/24 season.
Empoli have had a terrible run of results so far, and although they are not bottom of Serie A right now, they do come into this game having scored just one goal from eight matches and having also let in an alarming 16 - only Salernitana just below them have let in more.
Oddly enough, that one goal came against Salernitana in a 1-0 win, as Tommaso Baldanzi scored in a home victory. This was both the only goal and the only win of the season for Salernitana.
This has meant it has taken Empoli five games just to get a goal on the board and it also means the club are the worst goalscoring side across Europe's top five leagues.
Couple this with a 2-1 first round loss to Cittadella in the Coppa Italia, and there is an argument to suggest that Empoli are the worst team across Europe right now - Francesco Caputo scored that day.
Empoli would lose their first three games of the Serie A season by conceding five goals, as Hellas Verona, Monza and Juventus all defeated them. A stunning 7-0 battering away to Roma would come soon after, as they then lost 1-0 at home to Inter Milan.
Bologna would defeat them soon after the win over Salernitana, as Udinese also drew with them 0-0 last time out for what was their only other point of the season.
As for Fiorentina, it has been a sensational campaign for them so far as they sit three points above the Serie A champions Napoli and in the top four.
They are also just four points adrift of the champions AC Milan with the second most goals scored this season with 18 so far.
In fact, Fiorentina head into this one after a magical win away to the champions in Naples, as Josip Brekalo scored after seven minutes before a goal in the second half from Giacomo Bonaventura and a finish late on from Nicolas Gonzalez.
The Florence side have secured four other wins this season and only lost once in a 4-0 battering away at the San Siro against Inter Milan.
