The Worst-Ever Seasons for the 'Big Six' in Premier League History

Manchester United’s season continues to get darker and they have so far experienced their worst-ever start to a season across all competitions with nine losses in just 17 games.

It continues to put Erik ten Hag under pressure and break records for all the wrong reasons.

Let’s take a look at the worst-ever Premier League seasons for the so-called ‘Big Six’.

Liverpool (2015/16)

Despite winning 19 league titles, including one Premier League triumph back in 2019/20, Liverpool have had it bad at times in the Premier League. They have finished eighth on two occasions, most recently back in 2015/16 in what was the first season under Jurgen Klopp after taking charge in October following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers.

That year, Liverpool finished with 63 points and 10 losses alongside 16 wins.

Man United (2013/14)

Currently, this is the worst season for United. However, in terms of a full season, that falls on the shoulders of David Moyes in the first campaign post-Sir Alex Ferguson.

It’s not surprising that the club’s worst season was the one straight after the 13-time Premier League winner left, but it was still a surprise to see the mighty club drop down all the way into seventh. They won just 19 of the 38 games that year.

Manchester City (2000/01)

For all the glory of Manchester City in the present day, fans who have been around for a while will be fully aware of how bad things once were.

In fact, they have been relegated from the Premier League twice, firstly in 1995/96 and then again in 2000/01. On both occasions, they finished in 18th, but in 2000/01, they won one less game and collected four fewer points.

Arsenal (1992/93)

After years of challenging for the title, Arsenal have finished outside of the Champions League spots in six of the past seven seasons. However, it is their first season in the Premier League that remains their worst.

The Gunners finished 10th back in the old 42-game format, winning only 18 games and drawing a whopping 17. This saw them collect only 56 points.

Chelsea (1993/94)

Although Chelsea finished 12th last season, you have to go back to their second season in the division to see their worst output. The Blues finished 14th in 1993/94 and lost 17 of the 42 games by collecting only 51 points.

Tottenham (1993/94)

There have been a number of occasions where Tottenham Hotspur have finished outside of the top 10, but like Chelsea, their worst-ever campaign was back in 1993/94 where they finished one spot behind the Blues in 15th.

Spurs recorded only 11 wins and 19 defeats.
