The European summer transfer window may not close until September 1, but there has already been a host of big-money signings across the continent.
With the buying and selling of players in full swing, let’s take a look at the top five most expensive transfers of the summer so far.
1. Jude Bellingham – Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid (€103m)
Jude Bellingham became the 11th-most expensive player in the history of football when he joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for €103m on June 14.

The Englishman turned 20 last month, but he is already regarded as one of the most complete midfielders in the game – and he will only improve in Spain.
2. Kai Havertz – Chelsea to Arsenal (€70m)
Chelsea have been buying and selling players at an alarming rate since Todd Boehly purchased the club, with Kai Havertz joining London rivals Arsenal for €70m.
Despite scoring the winning goal in the 2020-21 Champions League final, Havertz never really managed to settle at Stamford Bridge. Now, he has the chance to make a name for himself in North London.
3. Dominik Szoboszlai – RB Leipzig to Liverpool (€70m)
Dominik Szoboszlai enjoyed a hugely successful 2022-23 campaign with RB Leipzig, racking up 10 goals and 13 assists across all competitions while winning the DFB-Pokal.
Requiring midfield reinforcements, Liverpool paid Leipzig €70m to acquire Szoboszlai’s services. The 22-year-old Hungarian playmakers can score and create goals, making him a serious attacking threat.
4. Mason Mount – Chelsea to Manchester United (€64.2m)
Like Havertz, Mason Mount found himself surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and swiftly headed for the exit, teaming up with Manchester United in a €64.2m deal.
With 129 Premier League appearances and 36 England caps under his belt, Mount has the potential to take the Red Devils to the next level under the guidance of Erik ten Hag.
5. Sandro Tonali – AC Milan to Newcastle United (€64m)
Newcastle United’s first major transfer of the summer saw them sign highly-rated Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for a reported fee of €64m.
Having spent more than €180m last season, the Magpies will be looking to sign more big-name players as they prepare for life in the Champions League in 2023-24.
