Which Player Had the Best Season in Europe

Nothing tops the performance of Manchester City in the European leagues this season. Pep Guardiola’s team won the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

However, while there can be no doubting Manchester City are the team of the season in Europe, which player had the most impressive individual campaign?

Staying with Manchester City and no player scored more goals in the top European leagues than Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker ended his first season with Manchester City on 52 goals having played 53 matches.

It is an incredible total and Haaland scored 36 goals in the Premier League, at an average of more than a goal per game. Haaland also scored more goals than matches played in the Champions League, netting 12 times in the competition.

In terms of statistical performances in the 2022/23 season, they do not come more impressive than Haaland.

Kylian Mbappe had another tremendous goal scoring campaign for Paris Saint-Germain and ended the season with 41 goals having played 43 matches for the Ligue 1 club.

PSG won the title in France and Mbappe netted 29 times in the French topflight plus scored 7 goals in the Champions League.

It is worth noting Mbappe did score 5 goals in a single Coupe de France fixture and that has inflated his goal scoring statistics for the season but there is no doubting Mbappe was one of the top performers in the 2022/23 campaign.

Switching to the Italian Serie A and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia enjoyed an outstanding debut season for Napoli, which ended with them winning the title.

The Georgian international moved from Dinamo Batumi in the summer of 2022 and little was expected of the wide attacker in his first season in Serie A.

Kvaratskhelia surprised everyone and he finished the season with 14 goals and 17 assists in Serie A and the Champions League combined.

Kvaratskhelia was devastating with the ball at his feet, running at opponents and causing panic in opposition defences.

In terms of assists, they do not come much better than Kevin De Bruyne and the Manchester City maestro ended the season with 31 assists and 10 goals in all competitions.

The Belgian international had 18 assists in the Premier League alone, which was 4 more assists than second place Mohamed Salah.

De Bruyne created 7 goals in the Champions League and 4 goals in the FA Cup, proving to be a crucial player in the success of both competitions.

With a total of 41 goals contributions from midfield, De Bruyne has enjoyed a magnificent season.

Some of the other star performers across the continent in the 2022/23 season include Jude Bellingham, who earned a move to Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund, Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski, Vinicius Junior, Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, and Antoine Griezmann, the latter of which went under the radar in Spain despite scoring 15 goals and having 17 assists in La Liga for Atletico Madrid.
