The top five leagues around Europe have seen their seasons conclude after Manchester City clinched the Champions League trophy and won the treble as a result.

Alongside this record-breaking year for the Premier League champions, many other records were broken. Let’s take a look back at a memorable season.

Erling Haaland Breaks Premier League Goalscoring Record

Erling Haaland’s stunning debut season saw the Norwegian score 36 Premier League goals. This broke the record held by Mohamed Salah for scoring 32 goals in a 38-game season and the City striker also registered the most goals for a debutant at an English club in all competitions (52).

Barcelona’s Unrivalled Defence

Barcelona have returned to the top of Spain after Xavi guided his boyhood club to another La Liga title.

The Catalan giants did this by breaking numerous records in defence. Firstly, they went the most games without conceding a goal in a season (26), which also meant that Marc-André ter Stegen matched the record for the most clean sheets (26).

Luciano Spalletti Guides Napoli to the Title

Napoli clinched their first title in 33 years this season with a phenomenal display throughout the Serie A campaign that saw them lose just four games.

The Naples side were many points clear even before the World Cup break and practically had one hand on the title from November onwards.

Luciano Spalletti guided Napoli to their first Serie A in over three decades and subsequently became the oldest man at 64 years and 89 days to win the title in Italy.

Victor Osimhen First-Ever African Capocannonieri Winner

Along the way to Napoli’s title triumph one man stole the show more than anybody: Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian, despite missing a bunch of games through injury, managed to score 26 goals in the 38-game season and became the first-ever man from Africa to win the prestigious Capocannonieri.

There have been a few South Americans such as Diego Maradona win the award, but Osimhen managed to do what even the great George Weah couldn’t by winning the top scorer trophy as an African.

Bayern’s Rampage on the Road

For the first time in 23 years, the Bundesliga title race ended with equal points, as Bayern Munich edged past Borussia Dortmund on goals difference on the final day of the season after the latter drew with Mainz.

At one point in the season, Bayern set Bundesliga a record for the highest number of consecutive games scoring at least one goal away from home.

After scoring a goal on the road on matchday five, Bayern set a new record for 53 consecutive games in which they bagged away from home, which dated back to matchday two of the 2019/20 season.
