Ever since Diego Simone took over Atletico Madrid back in 2011, the La Liga giants have won two league titles and established their home turf as one of the most dangerous places for any team to go.

In 2023/24, Atletico have won all seven of their games at home across two different competitions, letting in just seven goals and scoring 17.

Last season, they won 13 of their games at the Metropolitano Stadium and lost only three games with a +26 goals difference, and their record was even better in their La Liga title triumph of 2020/21 when they lost only once and let in just 11 goals on home soil.

Their current record at home sits at an 18-game winning run, as it managed to beat Granada with more goals from Memphis Depay, Alvaro Morata and Marcos Llorente in a 3-1 victory at the start of this season.

Up next was a famous win against city rivals Real Madrid, where Morata scored twice against his former side alongside another goal from Griezmann - these two have been arguably Europe's best striker partnership and have been easily Atletico’s best players during this incredible home run.

Simeone's men played hosts to Cadiz in their next home match, as Angel Correa got on the scoresheet for the first time this season with a goal in either half alongside a finish from Nahuel Molina.

Further wins in the Champions League at home would soon come in this campaign, as Atletico defeated Feyenoord 3-2 and Celtic 6-0, while it has also managed to beat Real Sociedad, Deportivo Alaves, Villarreal and Mallorca in 2023/24 at the Metropolitano.

Seven home wins this season means that 11 more wins came in 2022/23 as Atletico would reign supreme over Sociedad, Osasuna, Cadiz, Mallorca, Almeria, Real Betis, Valencia, Sevilla, Athletic Club, Getafe and Real Valladolid.

In fact, you have to go all the way back to January of this year to see their last home defeat, as the champions Barcelona ran out narrow 1-0 winners, while only Getafe from the aforementioned teams avoided a loss at the Metropolitano by drawing 1-1.

At home in 2023/24, Atletico are averaging 2.43 goals per game and are scoring in both halves in 71% of home fixtures too.

Heading into more fixtures at home, only Manchester City and Liverpool have better records across Europe’s top five leagues, as the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have all lost on home turf this season, while Real’s record sits at 11.
