Trends Point Towards High-Scoring North London Derby Showdown

If recent meetings between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are anything to go by, Sunday’s clash is destined to be a lively encounter with plenty of goals.

With Manchester City breathing down their necks, the Gunners must claim all three points to keep pace in the relentless Premier League title race.

As for Spurs, they will be eager to claim the North London bragging rights, derail Arsenal’s title challenge and enhance their top-four hopes. Can they spoil the party on home soil?

Tottenham suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United last time out, despite seeing 73% of the ball at St. James’ Park a fortnight ago.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have struggled for consistency since the turn of the year, recording six wins, three draws and three losses in 2024.

That said, Spurs have remained a threat on home soil this season, winning 12 of their 16 Premier League matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Having scored 34 goals in 16 home league games this term – netting over 1.5 goals on 12 occasions – Postecoglou’s men will back themselves to frustrate Arsenal.

On Tuesday, Mikel Arteta’s side reaffirmed their title credentials with a 5-0 thrashing of Chelsea, courtesy of braces from Kai Havertz and Ben White.

The Gunners have now won four of their last five Premier League matches, keeping five clean sheets in their previous six outings.

When you look at the bigger picture, Arsenal have won 12 of their 14 league games in 2024, racking up nine clean sheets to preserve the division’s best defensive record.

Having won six of their last seven away games in the Premier League, Arteta’s men will be hopeful of securing another positive result this weekend.

Head-to-head: Tottenham and Arsenal played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture, with Son Heung-min bagging a brace back in September.

Consequently, Spurs have managed to win just one of their last six Premier League meetings with the Gunners, with five of those clashes dishing up over 2.5 goals.

Team news: Tottenham left-back Destiny Udogie has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, joining Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon and Pedro Porro on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Arsenal came through the Chelsea clash unscathed, meaning full-back Jurrien Timber remains the Gunners’ sole injury absentee.

With Arsenal fighting for the title and Spurs battling for a Champions League spot, Sunday’s showdown is destined to be an entertaining encounter.

Forebet’s algorithm predicts that Spurs and Arsenal will share over 3.5 goals, with the Gunners scoring over 2.5 goals on their way to victory.
