Bayer Leverkusen will play hosts to Borussia Dortmund at the BayArena on Sunday for what is set to be the biggest Bundesliga game of the weekend where Xabi Alonso’s men continue to stun Europe with their efforts in Germany.

It's been one of the best starts to a campaign from any side this century for Leverkusen, but it has also been their best-ever beginning to a Bundesliga season.

The club have so far dropped just two points en route to sitting two clear of Bayern Munich after 12 games.

This sees them with 11 wins on the board and just one draw, which came in a 2-2 clash with Bayern.

Ever since then, Alonso's side have been sending shivers down the spines of Bayern fans and racking up sensational wins.

They went on to beat the likes of Heidenheim 4-1, Mainz and Koln 3-0 before Wolfsburg fell to a 2-1 loss at home too.

Further wins throughout November also saw them ease past Sandhausen 5-2 in the DFB-Pokal second round before defeating Hoffenheim 3-2, Union Berlin 4-0 and Werder Bremen 3-0.

Leverkusen have also made easy work of their group in the Europa League by winning every single game and conceding just two goals and scoring 14 of their own.

It puts the German side as the best defensive team in the Europa League and one of only three unbeaten sides left in the competition.

Time will tell if Alonso can continue to guide this record-breaking side closer to the title and put together a genuine threat to Bayern’s stranglehold on the Bundesliga. However, a win over Dortmund would be arguably their biggest statement yet.

Dortmund are not in the title race like they were last season where they lost on goals difference on the final day of the campaign.

The club are now 10 adrift of Leverkusen at the top and sit with two losses and seven wins from 12 matches.

On the other hand, they have been extraordinary in the Champions League, beating Newcastle United home and away before registering a win over AC Milan at the San Siro last time out to catapult them back into first place of the ‘group of death’.

In the Bundesliga, however, the club have won just two of their past five games, beating Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen alongside losses to Stuttgart and Bayern and a draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Forebet predicts Leverkusen to win and over 2.5 goals.
