The Erik ten Hag era officially starts this weekend in the Premier League as the former Ajax man welcomes Brighton & Hove Albion to Old Trafford with his side getting the fans a bit more excited than their usual selves after a solid preseason.
Manchester United started off with one of the hardest possible games ten Hag could experience as they met with Liverpool last month in his first game.
The Red Devils demolished their rivals 4-0 that day from start to finish, as Facundo Pellistri, Jadon Sancho, Fred and Anthony Martial all scored a goal in that 4-0 win.
They continued their winning ways when they met with Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace, before losing their winning run in a 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.
Finally, United would end their summer preseason games with a loss to Atletico Madrid and a draw with Rayo Vallecano in what was ten Hag’s first experience at Old Trafford.
The front three United have been hoping finally gets going has been the biggest asset to the preseason as Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Martial all scored plenty of goals in the games played, which does ease the pressure on Cristiano Ronaldo as well this season, who may end up departing anyway.
As for Brighton, they started their preseason with a 0-0 draw with Union SG, before putting together three wins and one loss. Estoril Praia lost to them 4-1, before the Seagulls went on to beat Reading 2-1.
Brighton did, however, lose their only all-Premier League preseason affair, as they lost to Brentford. They did manage to defeat Espanyol 5-1 in what was their best display of the summer.
Martial is reported to be out for this one here with an injury and Sancho and Luke Shaw also face late fitness tests.. Pellistri is also out and with Alex Telles on loan at Sevilla, it seems as if Tyrell Malacia will make his first Premier League start.
Ronaldo looks like staying at the club, and he now likely plays down the middle with Martial not available. Christian Eriksen could also start after playing well when given the time to do so in the preseason, and he may start alongside Bruno Fernandes and Fred.
The defence should see Harry Maguire likely playing with Lisandro Martinez, as Raphael Varane is potentially benched. Brighton, however, still have Marc Cucurella for now, but with his move to Chelsea getting closer, he won’t play here.
Forebet predicts a win for United and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
