When Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho first broke into the Manchester City first-team in season 2015/16, there was a buzz of excitement.

The then youngster seemed to have every attribute to become a top striker in the world game.

The problem for Iheanacho was that the competition for a first-team spot was City’s iconic Argentinian forward Sergio Aguero, as well as Ivory Coast international Wilfried Bony.

It was always going to be hard for Iheanacho to nail down a regular starting spot at City, despite him enjoying a promising start to his career in Manchester, as he scored 12 goals in 46 top-flight appearances for the Citizens.

In 2017, in a bid for more regular first-team football, he moved to Leicester for £25million. At the time, the deal was regarded as something of a coup for the Foxes.

Unfortunately for Leicester, Iheanacho has only shown his ability in flashes, until recently of course. Like at City, he was behind a highly regarded club hero in Jamie Vardy at his new club.

However, a recent injury to the former England star saw the 24-year-old get a chance to lead the Foxes line.

He took it with both hands and with Vardy now fit again, Iheanacho is partnering the veteran star in attack, as his form was simply too good to drop him.

A superb effort in Leicester’s 2-1 home win over Crystal Palace on Monday night continued his red-hot goalscoring form, as the forward has now scored 14 goals in as many games in all competitions for the Foxes.

His form this season is so good that in terms of goals, he has already doubled his highest goal tally in the Premier League for Leicester.

The fact he has scored 17 goals in all competitions illustrates that Kelechi Iheanacho is now finally fulfilling his potential at the highest level of the game.
