On Saturday evening, the top two teams in the Bundesliga reigning champions Bayern Munich and second-place RB Leipzig met in what was as close to a title-decider as you can get at this point of the campaign.

As is usually the case with the reigning champions in these big title clashes, the Bavarian giants came up with a professional display to claim a 1-0 win at the Red Bull Arena, with midfielder Leon Goretzka scoring the only goal of the game in the first half.

The victory moved Hansi flick’s team seven points clear at the top of the German top-flight table. A win for the home team would have put them in a good position to put pressure on the men from Munich.

Instead, it seems that Bayern Munich are once again cruising to another top-flight title, which will be their ninth straight title triumph.

In truth, it could have been a very different story, as RB Leipzig could and should have scored early in the second half.

Some may have complaint with Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann deciding to play with no out and out striker from the start, only to throw several of them on when chasing the game.

However, Nagelsmann’s team missed a plethora of chances in the second half. If they had been slightly more ruthless in front of goal, then Bayern would have been in trouble. In true Bayern style, the Bavarians rode out the Leipzig storm to claim the victory.

With a big midweek Champions League quarter-final first leg against PSG coming up the result was all that mattered, as the Bavarian look to negate the loss of star striker Robert Lewandowski through injury.

PSG may not be so generous with their finishing on Wednesday night, but at least it looks like Bayern Munich will remain the kings of the Bundesliga for another season.
