David Moyes may not be a terrible appointment for West Ham after all

David Moyes may not be a terrible appointment for West Ham after all

Many British football head coaches have been written off in the last few years. Mainly because their recent records in managerial have been questionable, to say the least. One of those is West Ham boss David Moyes.

On Friday night, the former Everton boss guided the Hammers to a 2-1 win at Leeds that leaves the Irons sixth-place in the table.

It is doubtful that many believed that they would be in such a comfortable position in the table at this stage of the campaign after their previous struggles.

David Moyes made his name as a Premier League boss at Everton. His Toffees team were usually hard to break down and beat. His teams at Real Sociedad and Sunderland did not follow suit, though.

Moyes first stint at West Ham saw a return to solid defensive foundations. He did a decent job and kept the Hammers in the league.

The Irons current run of decent form is reminiscent of the Toffees team that regularly finished in or around the European spots in the English top-flight.

The highly experienced Moyes is showing signs that the people who claimed he was past it as a top-flight boss were far off the mark. The experienced Scottish boss has got the best out of former Hull forward Jarrod Bowen and giant Czech Republic midfielder Tomas Soucek.

The pair have been vital in the Irons winning four of their last five league matches. Like at Everton, Moyes is developing younger players and polishing diamonds in the rough.

West Ham are a club that seems to have spent a fortune and not moved forward in recent years. Maybe Moyes’ pragmatic approach will lead to the Irons avoiding yet another relegation battle this season.

If they continue playing in their current vein, then the Hammers look like candidates for a top-half finish. Maybe David Moyes wasn’t the terrible appointment that many said he was last December.
