With the coronavirus seemingly putting doubt over everything in the world of football, we are unsure when the next transfer window will open and shut. However, one thing is for certain, the window will open at some point.
One interesting situation from the Premier League is what will happen to Chelsea’s Brazilian winger Willian. The 31-year-old is out of contract at Stamford Bridge this summer. He has been offered a new two-year deal but has rejected it as he is reported to want a pay rise and a three-year contract.
However, Blues head coach Frank Lampard is building a young team in south west London and the club are reluctant to give the Brazilian more money and such a long contract.
The former Shakhtar Donetsk star previously stated that he is happy in the English capital, as his family are settled, so he would like to stay.
According to the Daily Express, Chelsea’s capital rivals Arsenal and Tottenham could provide him with the chance to stay in London by offering him a deal.
Barcelona had previously looked interested in signing the winger. However, the fact that he has stated his wishes to stay in the English top-flight means that the north London pair are in with a good chance of signing Willian.
In terms of attacking numbers, the Brazilian is not that consistent when it comes to scoring goals or producing assists at Chelsea. He has scored five times and produced five assists in the Premier League this season. His numbers have been around the same figure for the last few seasons.
What he lacks in consistency he makes up for in work-rate and flair. He can be a matchwinner on his day.
As a free agent, he would prove to be an attractive option for many clubs. Where Willian will be plying his trade next season only time will tell.
