The January transfer window has slammed shut so it’s time to take a look the best signings from the past month. It wasn’t an overly lively transfer window but some of Europe’s top clubs spent big.

January is widely regarded as a bad time to do business, with desperate managers often paying over the odds for sub-standard players. So, how will these five players fare?

Let’s check out the best deals from this season’s January transfer window.

Christian Eriksen – Tottenham Hotspur to Inter Milan

This seems like a good move for everyone involved. Eriksen told Spurs in the summer that he wanted a fresh challenge but he failed to engineer a move away before the season got underway. However, with his contract running down, Inter snapped up the Denmark midfielder for the bargain price of €20m.

At 27, Eriksen’s best years are arguably still ahead of him. He joins an Inter side that are challenging for the Serie A title this season and will surely thrive under the guidance of Antonio Conte.

Bruno Fernandes – Sporting CP to Manchester United

After months of speculation, Bruno Fernandes finally joined Manchester United on the penultimate day of the January transfer window. The Portuguese was initially signed for €55m but add-ons could eventually increase the overall cost to €80m.

The 25-year-old scored 64 goals in 137 games in all competitions for Sporting and will bring a much-needed spark to Man Utd’s midfield. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking problems may not be completely solved but Bruno Fernades looks set to be a fantastic addition.

Erling Haaland – Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund

The teenage sensation lit up the Champions League earlier in the season by netting eight goals in six group-stage appearances for Salzburg. Haaland’s remarkable goalscoring record earned him a move to Borussia Dortmund and he already made a huge impact on the Bundesliga.

Haaland has scored seven goals and notched up one assist in just 136 minutes of action for his new club. He came off the bench to net a hat-trick on his debut before bagging a brace in his next substitute appearance. Another two goals and an assist last time out prove that Haaland is a special young talent.

Steven Bergwijn – PSV Eindhoven to Tottenham Hotspur

Steven Bergwijn arrives at Tottenham Hotspur having registered 31 goals and 41 assists in 149 for former club PSV Eindhoven and it appears the Netherlands forward has picked up where he left off after scoring a sublime volley against Manchester City on his Spurs debut.

The 22-year-old will add a great deal of attacking threat to Jose Mourinho’s side and could play a pivotal role in Tottenham’s push for a top-four finish, especially as star striker Harry Kane is expected to miss the majority of the campaign through injury.

Sander Berge – KRC Genk to Sheffield United

Highly-rated Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge has joined Sheffield United for a club record fee of €22m. Many of Europe’s top clubs were reportedly interested in Berge, so the Blades have done well to acquire his services.

Berge will fit in perfectly at Sheff Utd. His work rate is phenomenal and his ability to break up play will only enhance the team. Chris Wilder’s players are extremely hard working, so Berge is set to be a hit at Bramall Lane.
