Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen flew to Italy on Monday in order to complete the finishing touches on a £16.8million move to Inter.

The deal has been mooted since the summer. However, the clubs failed to come to an agreement over the Dane’s fee until the last few days. However, the 27-year-old is now expected to complete the move in the next 48 hours.

Eriksen has been a big hit in north London in his six-and-half years tenure with Spurs, scoring 69 goals and 89 assists in 305 appearances for the club.

He no doubt has talent, but some have questioned his consistency. The midfielder has the talent, guile, creativity and intelligence to be a top player.

However, at he has not been living up to his billing, especially in the last year. Speculation over his future may, of course, have distracted him from the task at hand.

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is regarded as a top coach, who probably could have got the best out of the Dane in different circumstances. The midfielder stated in the summer he wanted a fresh challenge, so his heart was set on moving on.

Joining an Inter side coached by top Italian head coach Antonio Conte could see the Danish international take his game to the next level. The Italian boss is renowned as a coach that gets the best out players.

While at Chelsea, Conte helped a number of players up their game, including Nigerian international wing-back Victor Moses, who has recently joined the Nerazzurri on a season-long loan from Blues.

If there is one coach that can squeeze every last bit of talent out of Christian Eriksen, then it is Antonio Conte. The move seems a shrewd one for both Inter and the Danish international and Eriksen may well fulfil his potential in Milan.
