David Moyes looks the most likely appointment at Everton

On Thursday, Everton dispensed with the services of Portuguese head coach Marco Silva. The decision was not a major surprise considering the team suffered a 5-2 drubbing at city rivals Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Midweek results in the Premier League saw the Toffees drop into the bottom three of the table. A defeat at Liverpool was almost inevitable, as the Reds are in top form and the Merseysider’s form has been terrible.
Speculation was already mounting over Silva’s replacement before the Portuguese boss’ sacking. A lot of bosses were linked with the position. However, media reports suggested that former Toffees boss David Moyes was set for a return to the club, coupled with Tim Cahill as his assistant.
The potential return of Moyes has been met with a mixed reception from Evertonian’s. Many believe that appointing the Scot would be a backward step for the ambitious Merseyside club.
However, the former Preston boss brought stability to the Toffees in his decade at the club with a very small budget. His style of play was often cautious and the team failed to produce against the top teams, though.
Since leaving Everton, the Scot has endured failed spells at Manchester United and Real Sociedad before bringing stability to West Ham on a short-term contract.
Moyes is known for his organisation skills and that is exactly what is needed at Everton. The team looks like a mess at the minute, as they struggle to keep the opposition out, while not always posing a threat at the other end of the field.
Evertonian’s obviously want a boss who will bring stability and Silva certainly was not the man to provide that. The sad truth is that not many bosses would look at the Everton job as an attractive proposition in their current position, which rightly or wrongly means that a Moyes return is the most likely scenario for the Merseysider’s over the next few weeks.
