A move to Italy could re-ignite Romelu Lukaku’s career

According to many media outlets, Juventus are showing an interest in Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku in a deal that could potentially involve highly-rated Argentinian star, Paulo Dybala. There is also interest from the Bianconeri’s Serie A rivals Inter for the big striker.

In truth, Lukaku’s career has hit a brick wall in Manchester. Last season he scored just 12 Premier League goals, the second-lowest tally of his top-flight career since becoming a regular starter in the English top-flight.

At one point last season, the forward even fell out of the United starting eleven, as England striker Marcus Rashford occupied the central striker berth. At the end of last season, there were reports of the striker wanting to move away from Manchester, with Inter emerging as the favourites to sign the Belgian international.

It seems his time in England is nearly at a close. This could be a good move for the former Everton player. The 26-year-old always believed he could become the best striker in the world. He may have over-estimated his own ability slightly, though. He does have talent, but he certainly was not the super striker that United thought they were buying when they parted with £75million in 2017.

He will continue to score goals, which will negate the negatives in his game for sure. However, at 26, he already looks like he is suffering from burnout, likely because of playing first-team football for virtually the last decade.

Lukaku still has time to turn it around and make his career more of a success. Maybe a move to Italy would re-ignite his hunger for the game and help him rediscover his confidence in front of goal.

There is no doubt that he has not been an overwhelming success at Old Trafford. However, maybe he can be in Turin or Milan over the next few seasons.
