Premier League Everton’s league campaign has been full of ups and downs this season. The Toffees are currently mid-table and look highly unlikely to finish in the top-six.

Everton recent run of form has seen them pick up just three wins in their last 11 matches in all competitions. A trip to Championship Millwall in the FA Cup on Saturday evening looks to be a potential banana skin.

Due to the team’s poor run of form, some fans are starting to ask questions about boss Marco Silva’s ability to move the team forward in the future. The team have looked lacklustre and lacking in confidence of late.

A FA Cup run would the perfect tonic for the Toffees, who have had very little to shout about in recent years. The Merseysiders last trophy was the FA Cup back in 1995. It is, in fact, their longest trophyless run in the long history of the club.

Evertonian’s have craved a trophy and this season’s FA Cup seems to offer the opportunity for the Toffees to end their long wait for glory. Neighbours Liverpool have already exited the competition, while either Arsenal or Manchester United will exit in the fourth round.

All three teams have beaten the Toffees in the latter stages of the FA Cup in recent years. A cup run would certainly help Silva’s Everton career, as it now looks like the Toffees whole season rests on Saturday’s potentially tough trip to the Den.

Everton only appointed Marco Silva last summer. The Portuguese boss is highly-rated by many within the game. However, his record in English football is not a great one by any stretch of the imagination, even if his two previous clubs were Hull and Watford.

The FA Cup was once the catalyst for success for one of Everton’s greatest bosses Howard Kendall in the 1980’s. Silva will hope it could be a competition that can help save his managerial career on Merseyside.
