Dele Alli injury adds to Tottenham’s injury problems

Tottenham recorded a 2-1 victory at Fulham on Sunday courtesy of a last-gasp effort from midfielder Harry Winks.
The Cottagers may be struggling, but they put in a big effort to keep out the visitors from north London. Mauricio Pochettino’s team worked hard and eventually earned their reward of three points.
The win came at a cost, though, as England midfielder Dele Alli limped off the pitch late on due to a hamstring injury. The former MK Dons star had levelled the scoring for Spurs earlier in the game and the early prognosis is not good.
After the match in his post-match interview, Spurs boss Pochettino suggested that the injury does not look great. Any long absence for the attacking midfielder would be a major blow for Tottenham.
The north London side are already without star striker Harry Kane, attacking midfielder Heung-Min Son and midfielder Moussa Sissoko. Losing Alli for any long period could have a big bearing on Spurs campaign, with vital games to come in the near future.
Alli was one of the players mooted as a possible candidate to start up front for Tottenham, with Spanish striker Fernando Llorente their only fit senior striking option. The veteran star certainly did not cover himself in glory against Fulham, scoring an own goal and failing to have an impact at the right end of the field.
Luckily, for Tottenham, the fixture computer may have just come to their aid, in terms of Premier League fixtures anyway. The team from north London now have three straight league games on home soil against Watford, Newcastle and Leicester. All three of the matches are highly winnable for Spurs. However, their games in the cup competitions may prove slightly more difficult.
Dele Alli has proven to be a key player for Tottenham in their rise in recent years under Mauricio Pochettino. An injury-layoff for the midfielder may just prove to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for Spurs or this case the Alli hamstring.
